TIRUCHY: A police Inspector from Andhra Pradesh was arrested here on Thursday after he confessed to his wife’s murder. The body of a middle-aged woman, bearing signs of sexual assualt, was found with a severe head injury on May 22. While it was kept at the general hospital here, the police tried to establish her identity. A missing woman case, meanwhile, was registered at the Tiruvannamalai police station after a plaint by Sathya Narayana, a police Inspector from Tirupati.During a routine inquiry by the police on May 24, Narayana identified the body as that of his wife, Naga Malleswari (35). When questioned further, his answers were evasive. This raised the police’s suspicion, who then detained him for further queries. On Wednesday, SP S Nizamuddin interrogated Narayana.Later, the SP took him to the spot from where the body was recovered. On Thursday though, Narayana confessed that he had murdered Malleswari. He disliked her friendship with several men and had warned her to cut ties with them. But she refused to bow to his demands. Recently, he took his wife to Kodaikanal in his car and on the way back to Tirupati, the couple ate near a toll booth in Samayapuram. At that time, the two picked up a fight again during which Narayana took a rock and dropped it on Malleswari, killing her on the spot. He then took away the rock with him and to avoid suspicion, he lodged a missing person complaint with the police.
