At This Lucknow Dargah, Cigarettes And Alcohol Is Offered To Those Looking To Fix Relationship Issues

Dargahs are shrines or tombs dedicated to Muslim saints and scholars. People visit this place to pay their respects. The word means doorway or threshold. Those who visit the dargah, offer garlands and light-up agarbattis along with a ‘chadar’. In Lucknow, there is a famous Dargah, in Musabagh Palace, where cigarettes and alcohol are offered for those who are looking to fix relationship issues, marital disputes, business problems and diseases.

This unique and famous Dargah of Lucknow is a shrine dedicated to an officer of the British Army and the Dargah is called Gora Baba or Captain Shah Baba Dargah. In an interview with Local18, renowned Historian, Ravi Bhatt that the Dargah was built was Captain Frederick Wells who was the captain of the British Army and lost his life in the First War of Independence in 1857. While the Britishers won the way, the captain died. His shrine is located in the palace garden ruins of Musabagh on the outskirts of Lucknow. His tomb has been granted a holy status and is visited by several followers from various districts of Uttar Pradesh and other states.

Instead of offering incense sticks and floral chadars, cigarettes and liquor are offered due to the saint’s penchant for the intoxicants. Interestingly, the locals refer to Captain Frederick Wells as Captain Baba. A worker at Dargah, Mishrilal shared that apart from cigarettes, live or cooked chicken, wine, biscuits and bread along with flowers and sweets are offered here. On special occasions like New Year and Christmas, people from near and far visit the Dargah. And on every Thursday, followers flock here to get rid of marital disputes or other diseases.

People believe that all the troubles go away by offering cigarettes here. Hence, people also call it the Dargah of Cigarette Baba. A huge crowd of couples arrive in this dargah. If one is facing trouble getting married, one can come here and offer a cigarette.

To reach Cigarette Baba’s Dargah, you have to come from Balaganj Chauraha of Lucknow to Harinagar Chauraha. You can easily get e-rickshaws for the Dargah.
