New Delhi: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Wednesday transferred the dope cases of quarter-milers Mandeep Kaur and Juana Murmu to the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
The disciplinary panel of the AFI that met here decided to refer the cases of the two dope-tainted runners on the recommendations of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
The two athletes failed out-of-competition dope tests conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Mandeep, who won the 400 metres relay gold in last year's Commonwealth and the Asian Games, tested positive for methandienone and stanozolol, while Juana, who missed a podium finish in the 400 metres in the Asian Games, tested positive for methandienone. Both substances fall in the category of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) and are included in the WADA prohibited list.
AFI director ML Dogra said NADA have been provided with all the documents and they will decide the bans to be levelled on the athletes.
NADA director Rahul Bhatnagar said that they asked WADA to deal the cases to avoid duplication of results.
"By Friday, we will decide the date of hearing of the two suspended athletes," he said.
The two athletes, who face ban up to two years, have laid the blame on their food supplements. Six other athletes have also failed dope tests conducted by the NADA.
