KOCHI: Kochi central police on Sunday arrested four migrant labourers from Assam for assaulting four youths in Karithala colony here on Saturday evening. The arrested were Asizul Haq, 23, his brother Anrul Haq, 21, Rasu Ali, 21, and Adavur Rehman, 20; all belonging to the Nagaon district of Assam.According to the police, the incident took place after the youths picked up a quarrel with the labourers over dumping of waste from construction sites at a badminton court in Karithala colony.Even though they were told to clear up the court, the labourers continued to dump waste there everyday, said the police. On Saturday, a gang of ten people attacked Rajiv, Mithun, Vivek and Maneesh, who used to play badminton there. The gang attacked the youth using sticks, planks and cement logs.The injured were admitted to a nearby private hospital. Rajiv, whose condition worsened later, was shifted to Kottayam Medical College. The police are trying to ascertain the whereabouts of the remaining members of the gang, and have assured that all will be captured at the earliest.
