BANGALORE: Around 45 autorickshaw drivers donated blood as a part of an Action Week Campaign organised by Adarsha Auto and Taxi Drivers’ Union here on Friday. The drivers were also persuaded not to use mobile phones while driving in keeping with their theme —’Safety Now’.The campaign will be on between October 7 and 14. Participating in the campaign, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) M A Saleem urged autorickshaw drivers to be dedicated to their work.“Commuters must be your priority. For this, you will need will and dedication towards your work,” he told them. “Autorickshaw drivers fall under the unorganised sector. So, awareness has to given to them about safety,” said M P Kantha Raju, organising secretary of the Union. Nearly 100 National Pension Scheme cards and 200 uniforms were distributed to auto rickshaw drivers on the occasion. Bus and truck drivers too participated in the event.
