KOCHI: "There should be a change in the attitude of society towards HIVhit," Excise Minister K Babu said, after inaugurating an HIV awareness art procession organised by the Girls High School, Ernakulam.
"It is shocking to see that 150 girls in a girls school are drug addicts. There was not a single spot in a girl's body that was devoid of any injection scars. One student was impregnated thrice. It is high time that we realised the gravity of the situation," he said. The State Government would try to bring about a timely change in Central Narcotics Act, the Minister promised.

He also said that there exist many loopholes in Central Narcotics Act.

"The attitude meted out to HIV patients nowadays is just the same that was shown to lepers at one point of time. It was KPCC's 'Aswamedham' that brought about a vast change in society's attitude towards lepers," he said.

District panchayat president Eldos Kunnappalli delivered the keynote address.
