New Delhi: Bad weather has further delayed the homecoming of the Indian sailors of MV Suez as PNS Babur, carrying the sailors, will now reach Karachi only on June 23.
The nightmarish journey continues for the sailors of Egyptian merchant vessel MV Suez even after a week of their release from the captivity of Somali pirates following payment of a ransom of $2 million. While moving out from the troubled water, they were nearly hijacked by another group of pirates.
The 18 crew members of Egyptian merchant vessel MV Suez, including six Indians, were shifted to the Pakistan Navy's PNS Babur as they had to abandon ship after the fuel ran out and a tug boat failed to reach them due to bad weather.
MV Suez was on its way to the Omani port of Salalah when it ran out of fuel and began taking on water in stormy weather. On getting a call for assistance, Pakistan Navy chief Admiral Noman Bashir ordered the vessel's crew to be shifted to the frigate PNS Babur, which was escorting it.
India and Pakistan were on Saturday locked in a nasty spat and lodged protests against each other over their naval warships allegedly resorting to 'risky' and 'dangerous' manoeuvres after hijacked MV Suez was freed by Somali pirates.
India lodged a protest with Pakistan against the violation by Pakistan Naval Ship (PNS) Babur of relevant regulations on navigational safety by its "risky" manoeuvres jeopardising the safety of INS Godavari and its crew. The protest was lodged through the High Commission of Pakistan in New Delhi.
