Ball in SCs Court, says Justice Thomas

KOTTAYAM: Justice K T Thomas, a member of the Supreme Court-nominated committee to study the issues of the Mullaperiyar Dam, on Sunday said the decision on the construction of a new dam hinges on the apex court’s decision.The Supreme Court has to take the final decision on the matter, he said.Justice Thomas said Kerala and Tamil Nadu should engage in dialogue to find out a solution to the issue. On the safety of the dam, Justice Thomas said that he was not qualified enough to say whether the dam was safe or not.“A study on the strength of the dam is being conducted by the experts and the Central Government representatives. The report will be out soon,” he said.A solution has to be found to the issue to remove the fear among the people about the safety of the dam, he said.
