BANGALORE: Acting upon the report filed by Prof T J Renuka Prasad, Special Officer for Land Protection and G S Chandan, research scholar in the Department of Geology, Bangalore University, Registrar (Administration) Dr B C Mylarappa on Thursday conducted an inspection of the university and found that 227.45 acres of land belonging to the university was encroached upon.From a total land area of 1,319 acres, the university had leased out 212.8 acres to the Indira Gandhi Art Foundation, Regional English Training Centre, NAAC and the National Law School. Around 20 acres of land is under dispute in courts.On Thursday, Syndicate members, along with Mylarappa, visited the sites and found irregularities. At NGEF Layout, 4 acres of land was found being used for illegal activities and the inspection team found empty alcohol bottles, cigarette packets and even condoms at the spot. In Kengunte, university land of about 10 guntas was being used as a lorry stand.Stating that a task force would be constituted under the leadership of a revenue official to pursue the cases, Mylarappa said that officials of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the Revenue Department would also be invited to conduct a joint survey to fix the boundaries of the university. Bangalore University has land spread across  Mariyappanapalya, Chandra Layout, Pantharapalya, Nayandahalli, NGEF Layout, Mallathalli, Nagadevanahalli, Kenchanahalli, and Kengunte.
