Organised by Karunalaya Social Service Society, the Pavement Dwellers’ Rights Association and the social work department of Hindustan College, the tournament is spread over two days with 12 teams battling it out for the trophy.D Jayakumar, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker inaugurated the tournament. Day One saw the preliminary rounds of the 10-10 matches with innovatively named teams like Che Guevara, Gandhiji, Virat Kohli and Bhagat Singh among others.S Shridhar, head of the Pavement Dwellers’ Rights Association, said, “Many youngsters get addicted to drugs, alcohol, tobacco and other intoxicating substances. We thought that an initiative could bring them together and motivate them to quit the habit.”The tournament was also aimed at helping them to become more responsible for the upliftment of the youth towards their family and society.
