Bangalore: The CBI is currently carrying out searches across 19 locations in India in the Belekeri mining case. Places include Bangalore, Bellary, Hospet, Sandur, Goa, Salem, Kolkata, Mumbai and Gurgaon. Those raided are public servants and private individuals.
This is in connection with the 22 cases the agency had registered last year. The cases pertain to the illegal export of iron ore worth 50,000 metric tonnes between 2009-2010 from Belekeri port in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The Supreme Court had ordered the investigation into the scam.
The CBI has already arrested four sitting MLAs from Karnataka in connection with the same case. Former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy is the main accused in the case. He has been in jail for over two years.
