Mumbai: Ever lost anything while travelling by public transport and never hope to see it again, well the Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking or the BEST has set a good precedent of saving them for you.
The lost and found department of the BEST is like a museum of umbrellas. The department collected more than 6,500 umbrellas in this monsson season itself.
Apart from umbrellas, conductors on the buses find ladies purses, spectacles, ready-made garments and if that wasn?t enough even mobile phones, gold, passports, ration-cards and cash.
There are instances where cash to the tune of Rs 30,000 have been recovered and duly handed over to the department by the conductor.
The passenger just needs to submit some proof that the lost article is indeed his and it is returned.
But officials say that three-fourths of the commuters do not make this effort and so after a month these items find their way to the BEST auction that is conducted every 2 months.
