BANGALORE: In an instance which holds a mirror to the lackadaisical attitude of the city police, Bangalore International Airport (BIA) police had registered two cases with the same crime number and filed FIR. However, the case which was registered first has gone ‘missing’ from the police records. Now, the complainant is running pillar to post to get justice. On March 24, 2009, Doddamuniyappa, a resident of Bhattara Marenahalli in Devanahalli, filed a cheating and atrocity case with the BIA police in connection with a land dispute. Sub-Inspector Kemparaju had registered the case with the crime number 18/09 and had filed anFIR.Two days later, R B Sharma, a CISF Inspector, filed a case of assault and deterring a public servant from discharging his duty against a Korean. Another PSI of the station, Srinivasamurthy, registered the case with the same crime number (18/09) and filed an FIR.This was unearthed after RTI activist N Shiva Kumar sought information regarding the case details under RTI Act. In response, the police said there was no such case registered. Later, Kumar filed a complaint with the Karnataka Information Commission (KIC), which further directed the DCP of North East Division to conduct an inquiry and submit a report on what action was taken. Though the directive came in November 2011, nothing has been done so far, except the police updating the KIC that they have reported to their higher ups. Meanwhile, a case was also filed with the Lokayukta. In his order dated November 11, 2011, the Information Commissioner D Thangaraj stated, “It is an offence that the FIR signed by the SI, is not recorded at the police station.”When Express contacted DCP of North East Division Ravikanthe Gowda, he said that the matter was pending before the Lokayukta and he could not comment on it.
