Nepanagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) successfully retained Nepanagar assembly seat as party candidate Manju Dadu won by 42,198 votes on Tuesday.
The initial trends after the counting began this morning gave lead to Congress nominee Antar Singh Barde but Manju Dadu, daughter of dead party legislator Rajendra Dadu, once gained the lead; never looked back.
Manju eventually secured 99,626 votes while her rival Barde could only garner 57428 votes. As the counting concluded, Manju was declared victorious by a margin of 42, 198 votes.
Nepanagar in Burhanpur district held special significance in the context of Madhya Pradesh politics as it falls under Khandwa Lok Sabha constituency represented by BJP state head Nandkumar Singh Chauhan while Congress state head Arun Yadav too has represented this constituency in the past.
Manju after the win, dedicated this victory to the hard toil of party workers while party state head Nandkumar Singh Chauhan too lauded the efforts of party workers saying they fought like army troops.
“I extend heartiest greetings to victorious Manju Dadu and express my gratitude to the public for their support,” tweeted CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan after the win.
At Shahdol which went to parliamentary by-polls, BJP’s veteran leader Gyan Singh was leading decisively by over 50,000 against his young rival from Congress Himadri Singh, daughter of late union minister Dalbeer Singh.
