Blending magic, chemistry

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: You might have learnt that Chemistry is ‘the science of matter, especially its properties, structure, composition, behaviour, reactions, interactions and the changes it undergoes’. But the Chemical Magic Fest organised by the Magic Academy the other day gave a new dimension to this explanation. The fest was inaugurated by Dr C P Aravindakshan. Chandrasenan Mithrumala led a discussion on the topic ‘The role of chemistry in magic science’ and it was attended by magicians Kunjabdullah, Darius Mithrumala, Jojo, Vishnu and Shahjahan. It was followed by magic competitions. The valedictory function was inaugurated by singer Pandalam Balan. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the ‘pookkalam’ and magic competitions. The fest concluded with magician Kunjabdullah coming face to face with the winners of the competitions.  One among the enthralling sessions was that of magician Kunjabdullah. He gave a scintillating magical presentation, with his bag of tricks. Among the tricks was the one which saw him pouring vodka, whisky and brandy into three separate glasses from a bottle of brandy. Alongside, he gave a strong message to abstain from using any form of alcohol.
