Ryan Gosling And Emily Blunt Say 'Goodbye' To Barbenheimer Roles With Taylor Swift's Song

It has been nine months since the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie was released and just a month ago since Ryan Gosling gave a memorable performance of I’m Just Ken at the Oscars 2024. Recently, while hosting his third Saturday Night Live (SNL) this weekend, Ryan Gosling used this opportunity to bid farewell to his Barbie character with Taylor Swift’s help.

During his promotion of the upcoming movie The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling expressed mixed emotions about bidding farewell to his Ken character. In a surprising turn, he pleased the audience with Ken-themed lyrics of Taylor Swift’s All Too Well, sporting a faux fur coat from the film. Emily Blunt joined Gosling on stage during the performance, playfully scolding him for clinging to Ken. However, she also sang her version of Swift’s song, themed around her character Kitty from Oppenheimer.

Before starting the performance, Gosling explained, “I’m here because of my new movie, The Fall Guy with Emily Blunt. So don’t worry. I’m not going to make any jokes about Ken because it’s not funny. Ken and I, we had to break up. We went too deep and it’s over. So I’m not gonna talk about it. I actually am gonna talk about it a little bit. I have to, because you know when you play a character that hard that long, just letting go just feels like a breakup and for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that can help, the music of the great Taylor Swift.”

During Ryan Gosling’s performance, Emily Blunt intervened several times and urged him to focus on promoting their new movie, The Fall Guy. She hilariously expressed frustration and reminded him of their planned promotion strategy. Blunt added, “You’re kenning right now, and I hate that’s even a verb. Take the coat off. You’re embarrassing yourself. I don’t mean to be harsh, but, Ryan, you have to move on. It’s time.”

Later, when Ryan Gosling brought up Emily Blunt’s role in the epic movie Oppenheimer and inquired if she missed her character, Blunt responded with humour and spontaneously broke into song. Ryan Gosling eventually joined her, and together they delivered an engaging duet. As their impromptu performance came to an end, Gosling and Blunt joined forces to blow out a Ken-themed candle, symbolising the conclusion of an era and the start of a new chapter.

When Barbie and Oppenheimer hit the big screens, Margot Robbie’s movie about the iconic doll captured the hearts of many. However, it was Christopher Nolan’s biopic about the Father of the Atomic Bomb that garnered the maximum honours during the awards season. While Greta Gerwig’s film received just one Oscar, in the Best Song category, on the contrary, the Cillian Murphy starrer took home 7 Academy Awards including the prestigious Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture.
