New Delhi: A Turkish airlines Bangkok-Istanbul TK65 flight with 148 passengers and crew on board has made an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi after a bomb threat written on the mirror of one of the toilets discovered by an alert person on board.
After the flight made an emergency landing in New Delhi, all the passengers and the crew were evacuated. The security forces have taken control of the plane. A thorough and massive investigation is also underway.
The 'bomb threat' message written on a mirror incident looks like a scene straight out of 1972 Hollywood movie (a disaster film) SkyJacked directed by John Guillermin. The film was a moderate success. Was a disgruntled passenger or a suspected terrorist inspired by SkyJacked of 1972?
In the movie, a passenger aboard Global Airways Flight 502, a Boeing 707, discovered a bomb threat written on the mirror of one of the first-class bathrooms. A second threat was soon found left on a napkin in a galley. "Bomb on plane divert to Anchorage Alaska. No Joke, No Tricks. Death".
The Captain of the plane Hank O'Hara (Charlton Heston) took the threats seriously and to avoid an explosive decompression if a bomb goes off, the plane was flown at lower altitude, increasing fuel consumption. The captain found that the hijacker Sgt. Jerome K. Weber (James Brolin), was onboard the plane as one of the passengers. Weber had warned to detonate a grenade in his hand if anyone attempts to interfere with his plans.
Finally, all passengers and the crew were released. Weber was actually not a hijacker but had nursed fantasies of becoming a hero to the Soviets. When Weber stepped out of the aircraft, he prepared to open fire on the Soviets but was soon shot and killed in the firing by Soviets.
