Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is at it again. He has renewed his verbal attacks on the BJP and its state leaders — this time with more vigour and intensity.

There is, however, a reason for this sustained attacks on party leaders for the last three days. Having a feeling of neglect by his own partymen, Yeddyurappa has resumed his attack to make leaders “notice” him ahead of the three-day national executive meeting starting on September 27 at Surajkund, Haryana.

He wants the Central and state party leaders to seriously consider and discuss his demand — to make him the state unit president in the poll year.

In the course of the last three days, Yeddyurappa once said he did not even mind quitting the party. On Tuesday, he said he would decide his political stand only after touring 100 Assembly segments.

By making such statements, the Lingayat strongman wants to send out a strong signal to the party leaders that he is not depending on the BJP. In fact, through his supporters like Minister M P Renukacharya, Yeddyurappa has been trying to make it clear that without him the party will be wiped out in the next Assembly elections.

“This has been the strategy of Yeddyurappa ever since he was made to step down. Previously also he had launched a similar blistering attack on the party and its leaders ahead of the BJP executive committee meeting at Mumbai,” a senior state functionary told Express on condition of anonymity.

Sources said Yeddyurappa might continue to mount pressure on the party brass by holding a meeting of his supporters later this week as all ministers will be in the city to attend the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday.
