The passengers travelling on BMTC buses will now have to pay one rupee extra for the first three stages and Rs 2 more after that. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation increased fares by 15 per cent on an average from Sunday midnight.
The passengers travelling on daily passes will have to shell out Rs 5 extra. Daily gold pass will now cost Rs 100 and the travel on AC Suvarna Sarige will cost Rs 60.
The KSRTC has also announced an average 12 per cent hike in bus fares. The Bangalore-Mysore express service bus fare will go up to Rs 110 from Rs 101, and the fare of Rajahamsa services on the same route has been hiked to Rs 170 from Rs 159.
The Bangalore-Belgaum express service buses will charge Rs 400 as against Rs 355 collected previously. A trip on Rajahamsa buses on the same route will now cost Rs 615 instead of Rs 544.
An official release said the corporations’ financial burden added on account of the diesel price hike was projected to be Rs 121.13 crore per annum.
The release said although the fuel price had been hiked by 13.9 per cent, the resultant hike in KSRTC bus fares had been restricted to 12 per cent.
