TIRUNELVELI: Even as a fast launched by the anti-Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) protestors entered its eighth day at Idinthakarai on Sunday, DMDK leader Vijayakant met them at the coastal village in Tirunelveli district. A total of 127 protestors have been staging an indefinite hunger strike since September 11 demanding that the plant be shut down. Radhapuram DMDK MLA Michael Rayappan has also been sitting with the protestors for the last few days.Terming it as people’s protest, Vijayakant assured them that he would send to the Union Government the demands put forth by the protestors. “The Centre should act as per the wishes of the people,” he added.Protest committee member Pushparayan said the health condition of many of the fasting villagers was deteriorating. “On Monday, social activist Medha Patkar would join us at the protest venue,” he added.On Sunday, a few women caught hold of an intelligence official near the protest site. Later, he was set free. “As the stir was on without police permission, cases are registered against the protestors every day under Sections 143 and 188 of IPC. Besides, two cases of bus picketing have been registered at Thomas Mandapam on the third day of the protest,” police sources said.
