CHENNAI: DG Vaishnav College conducted a free cardiac screening camp for the teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, senior citizens and media workers at the college premises on Monday. Organised in association with the Apollo Hospitals, the camp was part of the initiative taken by the 1st (TN) Armed Squadron - NCC of the college. Screening was done for the Body Mass Index (BMI), Blood Pressure, Random Blood Sugar, ECG and ECHO followed by a doctor consultation for all patients.Lt Col Ajay Dhawan, the commanding officer of the NCC squadron, inaugurated the event and S Narasimhan, Principal of the college, was also present. “Scheduling medical appointments when you are feeling fine may seem like a waste of time, but they are not,” said Ajay. “Higher education institutes, besides imparting inclusive discipline and career-oriented education, do have a significant role to play towards society, especially the senior citizens. Comprehensive health checkup of this sort will go a long way in addressing issues,” observed Narasimhan.The checkup was designed to provide complete information regarding the cardiovascular system and about 150 persons had registered for the examination.
