The birth centenary of Prof Rathinavel Subramaniam, former head of department of general medicine, was celebrated at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) on Saturday.
Dr C Rajendiran, current head of the department said, “Not only did Prof Rathinavel start the departments (neurology, cardiology, medical gastroenterology and psychiatry), he also inspired and trained his students and protégés to start off other specialties.”
Prof Rathinavel served presidents, governors and chief ministers during his term at MMC.
A booklet on Prof Rathinavel’s life and achievements was released. Dean of MMC Dr V Kanagasabai was also present and other senior professors paid floral tributes to a photo of the erstwhile doctor and professor.
