New Delhi: The central government has decided to go ahead with the appointment of former Chief Justice of India P Sathasivem as the Governor of Kerala, say sources, despite the fears expressed by lawyer bodies, said sources.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has forwarded the proposal to appoint Justice Sathasivam as the Kerala Governor, added the sources.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy indicated that he was not consulted over the appointment of Justice Sathasivam. He said on Monday, "When Governors are appointed the concerned CM is consulted. I hope that the Central Government asks me about it. I have seen it in newspapers, but it will not be right for me to comment on the basis of those reports."
The former CJI's reported annointment as the Kerala Governor, a first for any judge of the apex court, sparked political debate. Lawyers association questioned the propriety in the appointment of a former CJI as governor.
