Thiruvananthapuram: The Central government has shown willingness to initiate a CBI probe in the death case of a 30-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped and brutally murdered in Kerala.
The law student was assaulted using sharp-edged weapons before being murdered at her house at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district.
Meanwhile, police have recorded statements of three women neighbours of the victim. The neighbours have told police that on April 28 they heard wailing sounds from the victim's house and saw a man in yellow shirt walking out of her house.
The police will be treating the three neighbours as key witnesses in the case. The three had initially shown reluctance to join the probe.
The post-mortem report of the victim had revealed that there were at least 38 injuries on her body, including bite marks.
On Thursday, Chief Investigating officer DySP Anil Kumar was removed and AB Jijimon was appointed to head the team probing the case.
State Home Minister Chennithala said the shake-up was done as Jijimon has a better understanding of Perumbavoor area.
