Midnapore (West Bengal): A local court on Wednesday sent Naxal-backed People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA) leader Chhatradhar Mahato to 14 days jail custody in a case relating to ransacking of the police camp at Kalaimuri in Salbani police station.
Mahato was on Wednesday produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate NN Dasgupta who sent him to jail custody when the prosecution did not oppose.
Mahato, the convener of PCPA, has been lodged in Midnapore jail on a series of cases against him.
CID officers posing as journalists arrested him on October 26.
The PCPA activists on Wednesday blocked the roads at Lalgarh, Balpahari and Binpur of West Midnapore district demanding Mahato's release.
Meanwhile, a local court in Jhargram sent N Kisku, an alleged hardcore Naxal and squad leader, to five days police custody.
