New Delhi: Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday found himself in a rather uncomfortable position in Rajya Sabha when he lost his cool due to frequent interruptions by Samajwadi Party member Shahid Siddiqui.
After CPI-M member Brinda Karat, during supplementaries to queries on bank loans for students from rural areas, described some of Finance Minister's observations as "semantics", Siddiqui also used the same word against Chidambaram when the minister was replying.
"Just because the member (Karat) used the word semantics you are also using it. Do you know the meaning of semantics", an angry Chidambaram shot back at Siddiqui.
This led to angry protests from SP, BJP and some JD(U) members.
Amidst the uproar in the House, Chidambaram apologised to Siddiqui and told Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat that he was annoyed due to frequent interruptions by the member.
