TIRUPATI: If the choice be left to K Chiranjeevi, he would wind up his party, the Praja Rajyam, at the very place where he launched it, Tirupati. The actor-politician said here Thursday that he would love to merger his party with the Congress at Tirupati, at the foot of Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara.However, he said the decision on the date and venue of the merger would be left to the Praja Rajyam high command. Defending the merger with the Congress, Chiranjeevi said he has been encouraged by the steps taken by the ruling party to crack down on corruption since the advent of the 2G scam and the Adarsh Housing Society irregularities.So, the actor said, joining the Congress -- which he had once described as the ‘mother of corruption’ -- was not contrary to his ideals. No party is free of any malady, he said, adding that the Congress was now trying to clean up.Asked about his surprise meeting with dissident Congress leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy here on Wednesday, the actor said it was not a case of dinner diplomacy.‘’Ramachandra Reddy had come to my house when I decided to join the Congress and invited me to his house. It was only a courtesy call.’’ Contending that chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government is now on track, having overcome its teething problems, the MLA said the government has started delivering goods.Speaking as MLA for Tirupati, he said plans are afoot to improve basic facilities in villages around Tirupati, which have been neglected for years. For this purpose, he would draw funds from the MPLADS scheme and other government sources.
