BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Monday inaugurated a slew of development works in various parts of the city. Later, addressing a public meeting at Gunjur near Mahadevapura, Gowda announced that he would urge the Union Government to release a special package of Rs 5,000 crore for overall development of the city.His statement followed the BJP National General Secretary H N Ananthkumar’s advice to the CM, to ask for a special package from the Centre as it has been given to other cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai.The CM, who had promised to look into the projects of BDA, BBMP every week in his city rounds, inaugurated three flyovers constructed by BDA and also laid the foundation for two new projects. The newly opened flyovers are - Outer Ring Road (ORR) Junction flyover near HSR Layout built at a cost of Rs 34.77 crore, flyover at Agara constructed at a cost of Rs 67.71 crore and the flyover at Iblur Junction of ORR which has come up at an estimated cost of Rs 31.21 crore.A housing project for economically weaker sections, spread on an area of 10.24 acres, taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 151 crore at Gunjur, was also launched.Gowda also announced that a new convention centre under the name ‘Vemana Vijnana Bhavan’, would be built at Doddakallenahalli in Mahadevarpura constituency. “The Bhavan would be on par with Vigyan Bhavan of New Delhi,” he stated.Referring to severe drinking water shortage at Mahadevapura, Gowda promised to sink ten new borewells in the area. While laying the foundation stone for Koramangala Grade Separator, Gowda assured to convene a meeting of the resident associations which were opposed to the project. Speaking on the occasion, Housing Minister V Somanna said Bangalore will be made slum-free in five years.
