CM vows support to farmers

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar categorically stated that the state government is not ready to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and announced that the interests of the public and the farmers of the state will be protected.

At a memorial function for former pontiff of Brihanmutt Shivakumara Swamy at Sirigere village on Monday, he said: “The state needs minimum of 150 tmc ft water for drinking and irrigation. The present status of all the four dams (Hemavathi, KRS, Harangi and Kabini) is just 76 tmc ft, hence it is not viable to release water”.

“If water is released, Bangalore, Mysore and the cities receiving water from Cauvery river will face the heat during the peak summer season, apart from affecting standing crops in thousands of acres. When 49 taluks of the Cauvery basin are reeling under drought, how can we provide water to Tamil Nadu?” he questioned.

Plea to PM

Shettar also made another open plea to the PM to reconsider his decision of instructing the state to release water to TN. He also lauded the efforts of the mutt in providing quality education to the students of backward district since ages.
