The Singapore censor board has barred children less than 16 years of age from watching The Da Vinci Code.

Washington: Singapore has barred children less than 16 years of age from watching The Da Vinci Code because they are afraid some children might see it as a factual movie leading to confusion.

"Only a mature audience will be able to discern and differentiate between fact and fiction," Contactmusic quoted the censor board ruling.

The thriller will reportedly be released under the NC16 rating with a consumer advisory for mature content.

A senior official of the Catholic church in the Philippines has urged the government to do all in its power to ban the movie.

Eduardo Ermita said that it would "confuse" Catholics.

"We being a Catholic country, I think we should do everything not to allow it to be shown. At the least as a Catholic, it is blasphemous," he said.
