Cong leader among two robbers arrested

Phagwara: A Congress leader was among two members of an inter-state gang of robbers and killers arrested by Punjab Police on Tuesday.

Pargan Singh alias Pamma of village apowal was Secretary Punjab Pradesh Congress Party's SC/ST Cell and was practicing as a homeo-physcian at Hoshiarpur, party sources said.

The other accomplice was Harmandir Singh alias Mindha of village Kahma, police said.

However, the third accused Satbir Singh of village Mangoowal in Nawanshah district was still at large.

Two pistols,one of 315 bore calibre and other of 12 bore, seven cartridges and a scooter were recovered from them.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Kapurthala SSP Rajiv Ahir said that both had confessed to have been involved in looting Rs 4 lakh from a Money Changer office at local Chaddha Market after shooting dead an employee Varun Kumar and injuring another in 1999.
