Mohali (Punjab): Probe on corruption charges against former Punjab DGP S S Virk has gained momentum.

Vigilance officials on Wednesday raided Virk's properties in and around Chandigarh.

The raids are on at Chimney resorts, one of the popular resorts spread over 14 acres, which is owned by Virk and his brother.

Officials of the Horticulture Department accompanied the vigilance team to help them ascertain the cost of plantation in the resort.

Virk, who is currently on judicial remand, has been admitted to the PGI in Chandigarh as he is not well.

The former Punjab DGP was arrested on Sunday in a disproportionate assets case.

Virk had been suspended by the Prakash Singh Badal Government on the Election Commission's direction. This was after he was accused of being involved in a land scam.

He was removed from the DGP's post ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections in February.

A court on Tuesday sent the Maharashtra cadre officer to 14 days of judicial custody but considering that Virk was arrested on Sunday from Delhi charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, misuse of official position and harbouring former terrorist Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi alias Harjit Singh Kahlon.
