Two headmasters, Charles and Bhoopathy, who were booked in connection with scholarship fund scam in Namakkal district, are still on the run.
Both the headmasters absconded soon after the cases were registered. Though the police has been making several efforts, they could not arrest the HMs
Similarly, a special team led by Namakkal DSP P Annamalai initiated some steps to nab two touts involved in the scam. Mani, one of them, managed to evade the police and surrender before a Salem court while another one, Palanisamy, is still at large.
When asked, the SP Kannammal said the cops were still trying to nab the headmasters and the tout who were booked in the cases.
Meanwhile, The District Adi Dravidar Welfare (ADW) Officer, N Ramachandran, who was suspended for his alleged involvement in the scholarship fund scam in the district, is likely to be grilled by cops in connection with the cases registered against him. “Three FIRs have been registered against Ramachandran in connection with the scholarship fund scam. As part of investigations, we will interrogate the ADW Officer soon,”, Superintendent of Police P Kannammal said on Monday.
The officier’s role in the alleged siphoning off scholarship funds meant for the wards of those engaged in conservancy work was proved during an inquiry held by the Inspection Cell Officer (ICO), Salem.
He had allegedly colluded with his then subordinate, Umapathy, Superintendent of the ADW Department, Namakkal, to swindle funds disbursed to students.
It may be noted that the Puduchatram police booked a teacher, T Saravanan, on the charges of swindling scholarship funds on July 23 and was subsequently arrested. He confessed to the police about the involvement of touts and others in the scam. Ramachandran, a senior officer in the rank of a Deputy Collector, was placed under suspension following an order issued by the Revenue Secretary on Aug 24.
