As expected, the ramp action got off to a fashionably late start on the second day of the Chennai International Fashion Week (CIFW). So of course, seats were sparsely filled at the official kick off time 7pm – but post 8.45pm – you were lucky if you were standing and found enough leg room for both feet. The line up for the evening showcased creations by designers Richa Goenka, Hari Anand and Sri Lankan Darshi Keerthisena.
Richa’s collection ‘Agnes Accent’, inspired by Mother Teresa, showed off several all-white ensembles. City girl Andrea Jeramiah, also the showstopper, looked stunning in a full sleeved embroidered dress, with a sequinned skirt bottom. Richa said later, “The blue lines on the headdress are meant to signify the sari border that Mother Teresa always wore.” With blue lipstick to complete the look, models sashayed down the ramp pulling off classy variations of the simple attire that nun was always seen in. Though the nun isn’t really someone that you would associate with a fashion show, perhaps that’s where the novelty of this collection lies.
Next up was Hari Anand’s ‘Global Traveller’, which reeked of ethnic saris in bright colours contrasted with minimal make up. One piece that stood out was a ravishing chiffon orange sari with a heavy gold embroidered border, teamed up with gold beads. Miss India, Farah Hussain and showstopper for this collection looked beautiful in a stunning white and silver creation. The menswear line, on the other hand, replaced bright colours with neutral gray and whites. This collection was themed after another icon in history – it turns out, Albert Einstein!
Past dinner time and certainly close to panic time for Cinderella, the final designer of the evening, Sri Lankan Darshi Keerthisena displayed her creations. Eye balls were certainly strained on the rampas models with skin-toned swim wear and radiant hues of blue, pink and red sashayed down the runway. The showstopper, Miss Sri Lanka Sabrina Herft adorned a classy white and gold floral sari with a delicate gold embroidered pallu. All in all, the city’s fashionistas left happy and spent – CIFW season 4 is looking bigger, slightly better and fashionably unpredictable.
