HYDERABAD: The politburo meeting of the CPM began here on Friday to finalise agenda for the two-day Central Committee meetings to be held from Saturday. The meetings assume significance as top party leaders would be coming together for discussion for the first time after its worst ever performance in West Bengal and severe drubbing in Kerala Assembly elections However, the man in question - former chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya was conspicuous by his absence.Party sources said he did not attend due to illhealth.CPM general secretary Prakash Karat, Manipur chief minister Manik Sarkar, Kerala former chief minister VS Achyutanandan, West Bengal leader Bipin Basu, Brinda Karat, BV Raghavulu and others were present at the politburo meeting.Though, some of the West Bengal leaders were sore over general secretary Prakash Karat’s stand, which is responsible for party severing ties with the Congress, in all probability the Central Committee would endorse Karat’s line. The central committee meetings would mainly discuss poll debacle in West Bengal. “The focus will be on what went wrong and why the voters turned hostile towards the party and what were the mistakes committed by West Bengal government and the party. We will go through all these aspects,” a top CPM leader told Express. In wake Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa dropping enough hints she would move closer to the UPA government, the central committee will also discuss the national scenario.
