HYDERABAD: Tranquil minds, a comprehensive stress management and peak performance solution company, organised a panel discussion on “Looking Beyond Formal Education” in the city on Wednesday. The panel emphasised that happiness and a stress free life are prime requirements for students to learn and stressed on the need for gaining knowledge apart from just clearing examinations. The panel consisted of Dr Praveen Kumar, chairman and managing director, Tranquil minds, N Subramanyam, joint secretary, Hyderabad School Parents Association, Madhu Chadda, counseling psychologist and Abhiram Krishna, director of Southstate Business School. “Our purpose is to generate discussion for establishing better framework of education enabling students to develop into better citizens,” said Dr Praveen Kumar. He further added that, “At present, market requirement is not only related towards how well the student performs in the examination rather it has become essential to ensure holistic growth of each student mainly in the field of emotional intelligence.”Focusing on the importance of a parent’s role in a child’s development and the need to narrow down the gap between parents and teachers in an educational society, N Subramanyam,said, “There was a need for a paradigm shift in the perspectives of parents and teachers along with the society”. He lamented that the present day students are never happy as they keep comparing themselves with the better off ones. Adding to this was Madhu Chadda, who elaborated, “Parents are often responsible for setting their child against failure by keeping benchmarks in their education and life”. According to her, emotional intelligence was what students needed to lookout for. She also said students should do only those things that make them happy as talent could never be subdued. According to Abhiram Krishna, key to one’s success is discovery of talent. “Talent is always inborn. No school can teach it to you.”
