HYDERABAD: Police on Sunday arrested four persons in connection with cricket betting at two different places in the city. Three persons were arrested in Santoshnagar police limits while Task Force police nabbed a person in Nallakunta police limits. According to Task Force police, on a tip off, they apprehended a cricket betting organiser, Chilkuri Pradeep Reddy (30), while he was accepting betting money from punters for the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. Police also seized Rs 5,600 in cash and a cell phone from his possession. Police said Pradeep Reddy, a resident of Ram Nagar, owns a cyber cafe at Mourya Towers, Vidya Nagar. After he ran into financial crisis, Pradeep hatched a plan to earn easy money by organising cricket betting. Apart from direct betting, he was organising the betting over cell phones from his cyber cafe. In another incident, Santoshnagar police arrested three persons for organising cricket betting for the IPL matches.Santoshnagar SI Guraviah said the accused-- Ahmedullah, Anwar and Viswanath Rai, all residents of Edibazar locality-- were organising the betting over mobile phones. Police also seized Rs 24,980 in cash, one mobile phone and betting chits from them. Cases were registered under the sections 3 and 4 under the AP Gaming Act, 1974.
