Darshans call sheet in demand

BANGALORE: Kannada cine superstar Darshan, who is cooling his heels at Parappana Agrahara central prison, might not be acting in any movies now, but the real life villain’s acting skill is still in demand. This time it’s not film producers who have lined up for  his call sheet, but his fellow jail mates who have requested the actor to act with them in a drama.In October, the prison authorities plan to hold a drama, which gives an opportunity for the prisoners to act. But this time, about 25 inmates, who have been chosen to act in the drama, are keen to make the drama, a  star-studded event.A source in the prison said that jail authorities have provided a hall for inmates to rehearse for the drama and the hall is just behind the cell, where the actor stays. “On Monday, some of the inmates approached the actor and requested him to act in the drama. However, the grievous  actor did not give consent to their request. The inmates are still forcing the actor to take part in the play,” a source said.However, still the decision about which play to be enacted is yet to be taken. The director of the play, Hulugappa Kattimani, a noted theatre personality of Mysore, has not arrived in the city. The final decision on the play will be taken only source added. However, Darshan will not be allowed to act in the drama as per the norms of the jail. The prison’s chief superintendent, Lakhsminarayan, told Express that they had plans to hold a play in the prison in October. “But, Darshan will not be allowed to act in the play, as the project is meant only for convicts and not for undertrials. It’s a plan to bring change in the attitude of convicts through art,” he said.
