Delhi HC blast: Court to frame charges today
Wasim Malik was arrested a few days after a deadly blast took place outside the gate number 5 of the Delhi HC on Sept 7.

New Delhi: A Delhi court is expected to frame charges against the prime accused in the September 2011 Delhi High Court blast case on Tuesday. Wasim Malik was arrested a few days after the deadly blast ripped through gate number 5 of the complex on September 7, killing 15 and injuring 79 others.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out the probe and arrested Malik and a friend of his, Amir Abbas Dev. In March this year, it filed a chargesheet against six accused, including Malik, Dev and a minor.

Dev turned approver in the case and was put in judicial custody. Meanwhile, Malik's brother and alleged Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Junaid Akram Malik, Shakir Hussain Seikh alias Chota Hafiz and Amir Kamal, who too were named in the chargesheet, are on the run.

The police said the blast was the handiwork of the Hizbul Mujahideen and the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI).

In the immediate aftermath of the blasts, the HuJI had sent an e-mail to the media, in which it claimed that the blast was carried out in retaliation to the death sentence awarded to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

"Wasim Malik, an avid internet user, is one of those leaderless jehadis who conspired with the terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen and other outfits and executed this cowardly and inhuman terrorist action," the NIA said during trial proceedings.
