New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has slammed the city civic agencies for massive water logging in the city during the recent rains. The court has ordered the concerned commissioners and secretary of urban development department to take immediate action and report to the court.
The Municipal Corporations, the NDMC and the PWD have assured the court that all drains will be cleaned within a week to prevent water logging. The court also took exception to fabricated pictures in a report filed by the monitoring committee and said that the report must be submitted again with proper pictures.
The capital has been witnessing heavy downpour in the last few days. The Met Department had even claimed that Delhi had received the highest rainfall in the last 10 years on July 20.
The downpour which went on for around five-hours, had sparked traffic snarls across the city, with heavy water logging reported at several places.
While the authorities were caught off guard as the Delhiites witnessed blocked drains and malfunctioned traffic lights, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had said that the only solution to the rains was to pray to the gods and ask for the rain to stop.
