Delhi: Massive waterlogging continues on roads even as Yamuna level recedes marginally
The water level which touched the 207.30 metres mark has gone down marginally to 207.26 metres.

New Delhi: The water level in the Yamuna continues to recede in New Delhi and is at the 207.26 meters mark. The water level which touched the 207.30 meters mark has gone down marginally to 207.26 meters on Thursday morning and the trend is likely to continue.

The water level in the river had reached the record mark on Wednesday evening after the Haryana government had released water from the Hathnikund barrage. The water level rose at the Nigambodh Ghat area on the banks of the Yamuna river coast, leaving vast stretches of Outer Ring Road in the national capital prone to the river water.

Following the development, the Delhi government had taken preventive steps to control the damage due to flooding. Over 5,000 people have been already been evacuated and 400 people have been rescued. The government has also set up 19 camps and 500 tents for the people.

Haryana had released over nine lakh cusecs of water into the river in the last two days, resulting in the Yamuna crossing the danger mark in Delhi.

More than 1,500 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in east Delhi like Usmanpur, Yamuna Bazar, Bhajanpura and Shastri Park and relief camps have been set up.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that the situation is under control and adequate measures were taken.

The Old Yamuna Bridge, connecting east Delhi with the heart of the national capital, was shut for rail and road traffic on early Tuesday morning after the water level in Yamuna rose dangerously.
