Dismissed cop held for stealing bike

CHENNAI: A Tamil Nadu Special Police ((TSP) constable, who was dismissed from service for alleged misconduct, has been arrested on charges of trying to steal a motorbike at Thoraipakkam recently.Police sources said C Anand (25), who was attached to TSP’s Avadi battalion, was staying with relatives at Foreshore Estate. He was dismissed from service about three years ago and commuted to Avadi in connection with the case. On Monday, he went to an entertainment complex to watch a movie and in an inebriated condition tried to steal a bike there.Sources said the bike owner caught him red-handed. He was handed over to the Neelangarai police, who arrested him. A court later remanded him.Chain snatched from womenSeveral cases of chain snatching from women were reported from across the city on Tuesday. In Neelangarai, K Usha (25) of Kalathumetu Street was returning from her friend’s house in Vivekanandapuram, when two men on a motorbike snatched her seven-sovereign ‘thali’ and escaped.In another incident, R Lathika of Aminjikarai saw off her relatives at CMBT in Koyambedu and returned home in a bus. She got off the vehicle and was walking towards her house, when bike-borne men snatched her gold chain and fled.Similarly, a seven-sovereign gold chain was snatched from Saroja at Kodungaiyur.
