TIRUVANNAMALAI: Internal conflict within the DMDK became clearly visible at a protest led by party leader Vijayakant, in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday. In a surprise twist at a meeting held to protest the policies of the State government, Keezhpennathur union deputy secretary MK Kumar attempted to immolate himself. He made this rash bid as he was attacked by party persons for not including their names in the welcome banner placed by him in Keezhpennathur. When he approached the district party administrators, they paid no attention to his problem, he said. Tiruvannamalai police are conducting an enquiry. Meanwhile, Vijayakant spoke at the protest, accusing the ruling party of not giving him time to speak about the problems of the common man in the Assembly. He also alleged that statistical details were used to confuse the public about the Koodankulam plant.In another protest, Sholinghur MLA Manoharan and party secretaries Viswanathan, Nithya, Karthick and Harikrishnan led a meeting in front of Collectorate in Vellore speaking against price rise.
