New Delhi: Delhi Metro has called for a complete recheck of safety and quality of structures built in Phase-II of the project by independent structural experts, besides ordering a probe into the mishap during debris clearance at the accident site.
"Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan on Tuesday decided that all cantilever structures built by Delhi Metro in Phase-II so far will be completed rechecked from safety and quality point of view by independent structural experts," Delhi Metro spokesman Anuj Dayal said.
Structural experts Shirish Patel and associates have been appointed for this purpose, he said.
Apart from checking cantilever structures they would also check other pillars or civil structures as specified by the DMRC, Sreedharan added.
The move comes in the backdrop of the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Jamrudpur on Sunday, killing six persons.
The Delhi Metro also decided to appoint ex-General Manager of NALCO B P Singh to inquire into Monday's mishap when a crane toppled over and booms of two other cranes broke during site-clearing operations at Zamrudpur.
Singh is an expert on erection of heavy structures. Prima facie, the mishap on Monday happened when there was a mechanical failure in one of the cranes, Dayal said.
