HYDERABAD: The Arab who married a girl from the Old City was arrested along with the girl's parents and the qazi who performed the marriage after medical tests on the girl confirmed that she is a minor. The marriage was declared null and void, police said.
Hilal Saeed Mohammed Al Hilal, a 47-yearold municipal employee from Sharjah, married a girl from Moin Bagh on September 4 evening. On information, the police swung into action and took into custody Hilal, the qazi and the parents of the girl. With the girl's parents claiming her to be a major, she was sent to the Osmania General Hospital for age determination test where the doctors opined that the girl was aged about 16 years.

Her parents, Awan bin Salam Barawas and Parveen Sultana, enrolled the girl's age as 22 in the Aadhar card with the sole intention of performing her marriage with the Arab, police said.

Santoshnagar assistant commissioner of police Md Ismail said the girl was forced to marry the Arab and her signatures and thumb impressions were obtained forcibly.
