Opening to mixed reviews in India, Don rocked BO overseas, notching the highest ever Diwali opening in UK and UAE.

New Delhi: It may have evoked mixed reviews at home but Farhan Akhtar's remake of the 80s hit Don has rocked the overseas box office, notching up the highest ever Diwali opening for a Bollywood film in the UK.

The film, which opened in the UK on October 19, a day before it released across India, grossed an outstanding £ 288,000 (Rs 20 lakh) in its opening weekend.

"In the UK, the film grossed an incredible £ 5,37,000 (Over Rs 4 crore) in the opening five days along with the preview, which is the highest Diwali opening weekend ever for a Hindi film," sources said.

Don’s earnings on Eid (October 24) alone were to the tune of about £ 139,000 (nearly Rs 10 lakh).

In the US too, the film grossed a staggering $ 805,000 in its opening weekend from 113 screens.

UTV sources said the film grossed a total of $ 1.1 million in the first five days in the US which is amongst the top three openings for an Indian film ever in North America.

In the UAE, too, Don grossed over AED 2 million ($ 540,000) in the opening five days, which was again the highest Diwali opening in the UAE ever and going on to be the second highest opening week ever, UTV sources said.
