New Delhi: Actor Prateik Babbar, son of actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, is one of the few actors in Bollywood who does not like flaunting his filmi background and prefers doing things on his own.
The 26-year-old says he does not like using his surname to get big banner projects and works to make his own identity.
"There is nothing more satisfying than making a name for yourself. I don't want to use my family name to get movies, I like doing things on my own. Even if you are from a movie background you have to prove yourself. I am satisfied with the
way my career has shaped up and don't like using my surname to get work," Prateik told PTI.
The actor started his career with 2008 release 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' and went on to star in films like 'Dhobi Ghaat', 'Dum Maro Dum', 'Aarakshan', 'My Friend Pinto' and 'Ekk Deewana Tha'.
Prateik has always maintained a low-profile in public and had only one release last year. His upcoming project this year is 'Issaq', an Indian adaptation of Rome-Juliet, which hits the theatres this Friday.
The actor does not mind doing one film a year as long as he gets to do quality work.
"It is a conscious decision to do one movie a year. I don't want to pick up any project that comes my way. Don't care what people say and will continue working according to my ideologies," he said.
'Issaq' is directed by Manish Tiwary and also stars Rajeshwari Sachdev, Ravi Kishan and Makarand Deshpande.
"This is Romeo-Juliet with Indian masala. Set in a Banarasi tone the movie is a typical entertainer. It was very difficult to portray the character and I chose this movie because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone," Prateik said.
The actor's upcoming project is titled 'Ram Pam Posh', helmed by newbie director Sam Khan.
Prateik will star along with TV actor Karan Kundra in the lead.
