THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police on Wednesday launched a major combing operation against those found violating traffic rules.   In the operation,  around 120 persons were booked for drunken driving.  Different teams from all police stations of the city under Assistant Commissioners K S Vimal, Haridas and Radhakrishnan carried out the combing operations.  “At  least  four or five persons under each police station limit were caught.  The total number would come to around 120 persons” said  Sanghumugham A C  K S Vimal. Police said that the combing operations would continue in the coming days and would be a regular one.  “Each day it will be in a new form.  Sometimes we would focus on those who are using mobile phone while driving while on some days  it would against those who ride without helmets and on some days it would be against drunken driving. Sometimes, we would be focusing on all these offences.  But in the initial stage the focus is only on giving a clear message. At least ten teams will be assigned to carry out the operations. Three or four civil police officers under the sub- inspector of each police station of the city would be assigned with the task.  The whole work will be coordinated by Assistant Commissioners” City Police Commissioner T J Jose told Express.  There were reports that DGP had directed to cancel the license of those found guilty of  drunken driving.   But the city police has not yet received a directive to this effect.
