Dubai-Bound Emirates Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Mumbai Airport
"The ATC declared full emergency at the MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited) at 1359 hrs after a Boeing 777 flight of Emirates (EK 652) from Dubai to Male had to make an emergency landing following detection of smoke in the aircraft," a Mumbai airport official said on Tuesday.

Mumbai: An Emirates flight from Dubai to Male with 309 passengers on board on Tuesday landed under emergency conditions at the city airport after the pilot detected smoke on board.

"The ATC declared full emergency at the MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited) at 1359 hrs after a Boeing 777 flight of Emirates (EK 652) from Dubai to Male had to make an emergency landing following detection of smoke in the aircraft," a Mumbai airport official said on Tuesday.

The flight with 309 passengers and crew landed safely at 1458 hrs on Runway 9 of the Mumbai airport, the official said.

Emirates Airlines released an official statement on the emergency landing.

"Emirates can confirm that on 26 July 2016, flight EK652 from Dubai to Male was diverted to Mumbai due to a technical fault. The aircraft landed and passengers safely disembarked. Emirates apologises for the inconvenience. The health and safety of our crew and passengers is of paramount importance", the statement said.
