Two persons who were part a gang that allegedly set a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus on fire were on Wednesday remanded to two weeks in judicial custody by Judicial Magistrate Court-I.
K Murugesan (32) from Kallukadai, Chemmampalayam in Mallasamudram and K Senthil (31) of Chettiyampalaym, Pullagoundampatti in Thiruchengode, were produced before JM K R Jothi in the afternoon.
The duo was nabbed on Tuesday. The TNSTC bus was torched on Monday morning, hours after police picked up around 320 persons belonging to the Athi Thamilar Peravai during a protest demanding a CB-CID probe into the alleged suicide of a college girl in Thiruchengode. Murugesan apparently went to the marriage hall where the leaders of the Peravai were detained and tried to force his way in. However, police turned him away. Later, police detailed, Murugesan, accompanied by Senthil purchased petrol from a petrol station at Vallipuram. They then poured petrol on the rear side of the bus and set it on fire, police said.
